Discover the ‘Art’ of Tanning at La Physique’
Sure we all love the dark tan look, which has become synonymous with health… BUT such tanning ages our skin needlessly and increases the risk of skin cancer… is there an alternative?
In the last decade, airbrush tanning has been elevated to a fine art. Air brush tanning is a precise, thorough and completely modern way of applying a faux tan and is very popular with individuals who don’t have the time or patience to apply self-tanning lotions or visit a tanning bed, and for those who wish to avoid the harmful effects and risks of UV exposure.

Color is distributed over the skin using a compressor and an airbrush delivery system that looks very similar to the airbrush tools used by artists to paint on canvases. The air compressor forces air out through the end of an airbrush that is attached to a bottle or can of skin colorant. As the air speeds through the airbrush it collects fine particles of solution that are smoothly and evenly deposited onto the skin.
State-of-Art SAFE ‘Tanning’
La Physique’s state-of-art approach has taken the process of air brush tanning even further, by adopting technology that attaches a magnetic polarity to the molecules of the tanning solution.
The fine spray that is ejected from the airbrush descends on the skin, in even tinier particles, giving it a very delicate and believable color and texture.
What is airbrush tanning?
Airbrush tanning is a whole new way to tan your skin without any exposure to harmful UVA/UVB rays. With the use of an air compressor sunless tanning solutions are applied to your entire body by a certified technician. The solution sprays out of the airbrush in a fine cooling mist allowing for an even, streak-free application. The entire process takes 10 minutes.
How does airbrush tanning work?
The sunless tanning solution contains an FDA approved cosmetic ingredient called Dihydroxyactone (DHA). DHA works by reacting with the keratin protein in the top layer of the skin. The DHA in sunless solution is derived from a vegetable source (such as sugar cane or beets). DHA has been used in every sunless tanning product on the market for over 40 years. The DHA is airbrushed onto your skin and begins to appear between 8-12 hours after application.
How do I prepare for an Airbrush Tanning session?
For the maximum result, before your session, shower and exfoliate the skin. Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier. Also, remove all jewelry and leave it off for a few hours, after your session.
What should I wear?
Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts. Your tanning specialist will use the utmost discretion. Loose fitting clothing should be worn for leaving the facility. We have found that DHA reacts with wool, nylon, and silk. These fabrics should not be worn during or immediately following your tanning session.
Why should I change to sunless tanning?
Although sunbathing or lying in a tanning bed can be relaxing, they can cause irreparable damage to the skin. It is a proven fact that exposing your skin to any type of ultraviolet rays will cause premature aging, eye damage, and possible skin cancer. When the sun damages cells, melanin rushes to the epidermis (outer layer of the skin) to provide protection against the next onset. As you slowly build up a “protective” tan, your skin is darkening in response to damage on top of damage. Airbrush tanning is the healthy alternative to sunbathing! No evidence shows that it can be harmful to pregnant or nursing mothers.
Preparation before session
-Shower and exfoliate (removing dead skin) to ensure an even tan.
-Do not apply any deodorant, toner, moisturizers, body spray, or make-up.
-Make sure to wear or bring loose clothing and flip flops to allow your tan to dry faster.
Maintenance after session
-Do not shower, swim, or work out for at least 8-12 hours after the solution has been applied.
-Wait to apply make-up until after you’ve showered.
-Moisturize as much as you want after your shower, since it will extend the life of your tan.
-Avoid use of toners which contain high concentrations of alcohol
How long will my tan last?
Your airbrush tan may last anywhere from 5-12 days, dependant on your skin type, and how you take care of your skin. A tan extender is highly recommended to allow for a natural fading process to occur. We have some exceptional tan extender lotions available, here.
